Wegovy Pill (Oral Semaglutide) Now EU Approved and Available
The Wegovy pill contains oral semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection delivered in a once-daily tablet. If you've considered weight-loss injections but hesitated over needles, this is the development you've been waiting for.
Now licensed in both the UK and EU, the Wegovy tablet is stocked in Northern Ireland and available to eligible patients in the Republic of Ireland through our doctor-led service today.
Trial results reflect averages from clinical trials; individual results vary. This page offers a medical consultation, not a medication purchase.
How Irish Patients Can Get the Wegovy Pill Today
The Wegovy pill now holds both a UK (MHRA) and EU (European Commission) licence making it fully approved for patients in Ireland. It isn't in Irish pharmacies yet, but it's in stock in Northern Ireland now.
That's the practical advantage we offer: eligible Irish patients can access it today, assessed by an Irish-registered doctor, dispensed by a named licensed Northern Ireland pharmacy, and delivered to your door without waiting for local availability.
How to get the Wegovy pill in Ireland
Most patients can be assessed within minutes and prescribed within 24 to 48 hours if suitable.
- Complete a short form: a 3-minute online medical questionnaire. No video, no phone call. Flat €30.
- A doctor reviews you: an Irish-registered doctor checks your suitability and screens for contraindications.
- Prescription issued: if clinically appropriate, your prescription goes to a licensed NI pharmacy partner.
- Collect or delivered: collect, or discreet delivery.
How Oral Semaglutide Works: Same Active Ingredient, No Needle
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist: it mimics a natural gut hormone that regulates appetite, slows stomach emptying, and reduces the constant "food noise" that undermines so many weight-loss attempts. Most patients simply eat less without the constant effort of willpower.
Delivering it by mouth meant solving a real pharmaceutical problem: peptides are normally destroyed in the stomach. The tablet pairs semaglutide with an absorption enhancer (SNAC) that protects it long enough to be absorbed. That's why it must be taken on an empty stomach with a small sip of water, 30 minutes before food, drink, or other medicines.
Switching from the Wegovy Injection to the Pill
If you're already on the Wegovy injection, you don't need to restart from scratch. Switching is handled at your consultation: the doctor maps your current injection dose to the right pill dose and sets the timing of the crossover. The pill is currently available in 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg; the 25 mg maintenance tablet is not available yet. The doctor confirms the right entry point based on which injection dose you're currently on.
Patients new to semaglutide start at 1.5 mg and titrate up through 4 mg and 9 mg before reaching the 25 mg maintenance dose.
Who Can Be Prescribed the Wegovy Pill
Eligibility follows the licensed clinical criteria.
You may be eligible if you are an adult with:
- A BMI of 30 or above, or
- A BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition — such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea
We do not prescribe for patients with type 2 diabetes. If you have T2D, your GP or specialist can advise on the appropriate semaglutide treatment for your situation.
Not suitable
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2
- History of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disease (including gastroparesis)

What it costs: two separate charges
1. The consultation: flat €30
You pay a flat €30 for the prescription, the same for your first consultation and every repeat, including dose changes. An Irish-registered doctor reviews your short online form. If you're not suitable, the €30 is refunded in full.
2. The medication + delivery: charged by the pharmacy
The tablet is charged separately by the dispensing pharmacy, not by us, and varies by dose. Delivery to Ireland usually costs £10 - £15 (or collect in person). Your chosen pharmacy confirms the current price for your dose before you commit.
Keeping the two costs separate is what allows for transparency: a clear, flat fee for the medical assessment, and the medicine priced by the pharmacy that supplies it.

The Wegovy pill in Ireland: the key information
Is the Wegovy pill available in Ireland now?
The Wegovy tablet holds a full UK (MHRA) licence and is stocked in Northern Ireland pharmacies now, while routine Republic of Ireland pharmacy supply is still ramping up. Approval and availability are different things, a medicine can be authorised long before commercial stock reaches every market. Through our service, an Irish-registered doctor can assess you and, if suitable, issue a prescription dispensed from our licensed Northern Ireland pharmacy partner, so eligible Irish patients can access it today rather than waiting for the wider EU rollout.
How much does it cost to find out if I qualify?
A flat €30 for the online consultation, the same for your first consultation and every repeat, including dose reviews, assessed by an Irish-registered doctor. If treatment isn't clinically appropriate for you, the €30 is refunded in full, so you only pay for a consultation that gives you a real treatment pathway. The medicine itself is charged separately by the dispensing pharmacy and confirmed to you before you commit.
Is it legal to have it delivered from Northern Ireland?
Yes, where three conditions hold: a valid prescription issued for an individually named patient, dispensing by a licensed pharmacy, and supply for that patient's personal use. Every order through our service meets all three. The Windsor Framework keeps Northern Ireland aligned with EU medicines regulation, so the product carries the same falsified-medicines protections as any EU-dispensed medicine. What's illegal is buying prescription medicines from sites that require no prescription, a completely different activity.
Is the pill as effective as the injection?
For semaglutide, effectively yes. In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking the 25 mg daily tablet lost an average of 16.6% of their body weight, with roughly one in three losing 20% or more, close to the ~15% average seen with the Wegovy 2.4 mg weekly injection in the STEP 1 trial. Those are different trials with different participants, so small gaps shouldn't be over-read. Which option suits you depends on your history, goals and tolerability, that's the conversation your doctor has with you. This information is provided for general education, not as a treatment promise.
What are the side effects?
Oral semaglutide carries the same core cautions as injectable GLP-1s. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, constipation and diarrhoea, usually worst during dose escalation and easing with time. Treatment starts low (1.5 mg) and steps up roughly monthly to the 25 mg maintenance dose to keep this manageable. It isn't suitable in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with a history of pancreatitis, certain thyroid conditions or severe GI disease. Always read the patient information leaflet and discuss your history with the doctor. Suspected side effects can be reported to the HPRA.
Can I switch from injections to the pill?
Often yes, under clinical guidance, but with one important rule. Even though the pill and the Wegovy injection contain the same molecule, you do NOT carry your injection dose straight across. Because the tablet is absorbed very differently from the pen, anyone switching from an injection starts the pill at the lowest dose (1.5 mg) and titrates up step by step, exactly as a brand-new patient would, even if you were on a high injection dose. Your prescribing doctor manages that escalation to keep side effects manageable. Patients on Mounjaro can also discuss switching, though the doctor will explain the effectiveness trade-off first. The decision is made at a consultation (a flat €30, same as any first or repeat), based on daily-tablet-versus-weekly-pen fit, needle comfort, travel and routine.
How fast can I start?
Typically within the same week: complete the consultation today (€30), with doctor review usually within 2 to 4 hours. On approval, your prescription is transmitted to the Northern Ireland pharmacy for dispensing, with collection or delivery arranged directly with the pharmacy. If you'd like to register your interest or ask a question first, message us on WhatsApp, and we'll guide you through it.
